2001 Marchesi di Gresy Barbaressco Camp Gros
Wine Advocate: The 2001 Barbaresco Camp Gros, from a sub-plot of Martinenga bordering Rabaja, is a huge, massive wine. A deep ruby, it offers layers of dark ripe fruit and menthol on a large, strapping frame. Though pretty shut down today, it should be excellent in a few years and drink well until age 15. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016. Score: 92. Antonio Galloni, October 2006. Wine Spectator: Plum, blackberry and subtle vanilla aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and tobacco, berry and toasted oak character. A multilayered wine. Best after 2007. Score: 92. James Suckling, November 30, 2005. Famous in ancient Roman times when the estate was known as `Villa Martis`, today Martinenga's 11 hectares (29.5 acres) of Nebbiolo vineyards are considered to be one of the greatest single vineyards dedicated to the production of Barbaresco d.o.c.g. With ideal southern exposure and the particular composition of the soil (blue marl) produces fruit that is transformed into a Barbaresco of extraordinary class and finesse. The winery, recently expanded, provides the means to produce products of the highest quality, with respect to the oenological tradition from grapes grown in the various estates which di Grésy owns.
